And now, it’s time to write!
This week, we’re writing on the prompt:
[Tweet “This week’s Five Minute Friday prompt is: PASS. Come join us! #amwriting”]
Setting my timer for five minutes, and … GO.
Have you ever just had one of those weeks where everything seems to be a challenge? When you’re hit with a barrage of trials, one after the other, and you ask yourself, “When will it ever end?”
Or maybe it’s one particular hardship that just keeps going and going, and every morning you wake up hoping it will all be over, or maybe you’ll realize it was all a bad dream, until your feet hit the floor, and you know it’s for real.
When I’ve faced seasons of persistent frustration, it helps me to ask God for a little perspective shift.
I turn to His Word and page through until I find promises that speak of His enduring, unchanging character, like this:
[Tweet “”The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” ~ Isaiah 40:8”]
I read verses like 2 Corinthians 4:15-17 and remind myself that this too, shall pass — and in the meantime, it’s making me stronger:
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” ~ 2 Corinthians 4:15-17
[Tweet “Going through a trial? Remember: This too, shall pass. In the meantime, it’s making you stronger.”]
I glean hope and strength from Isaiah, when he writes:
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze. ~ Isaiah 43:2
It may not feel pleasant at the time — okay, it never feels pleasant. But God is doing a refining work in us. And the best part? We can rest assured that the ache is only temporary. He’s prepared a place for us that will never perish, spoil or fade — a place with no more tears, or crying or pain. Hallelujah.
STOP.

Amen! I’m so gld that God promises to pass WITH us through those trials. He doesn’t take them away, because we need to grow and be refined. But he passes through them alongside of us. That’s a promises we can take to the bank!
Yes! Praise God for His sure promises and presence. Hope you had a wonderful weekend, Anita! Thanks for being here again!
Love the promises in that Isaiah verse.
Me too, Tara!
Beautiful post, perfect Scripture. Thanks!
I’m so glad, Andrew. I thought of you while writing and hoped it would be an encouragement to you.
A truly mindful reminder that life will always be okay!
This whole month has traveled at the speed of sound and I’m struggling to stay ahead.
Happy Friday my friend!
Thanks for being here, Kisma! Hope things slow down a bit for you! At least we made it to May, right? 😉
I awoke this morning to a heart in turmoil. Turmoil over transitions in church, leaders whom I have trusted no longer in that place of grace for me. Tears threatening to spill thinking over the night before. A trusted” Jonathan friend guiding me through this process. I decided to pass. Pass on the chaos, the distractions, the words spoken and unspoken, the years of baggage accumulated from hurts. I passed so I could rest. I ran to His holy place and there I left it all, His mercy meeting my heart, His constant roving eyes knowing already what I required. Be still and know I am God.
Thank you, Teresa, for sharing this moving account. So glad you have a rock and a refuge in God. May He continue to strengthen you for the week that lies ahead! We appreciate your contribution here. Every blessing!
Mine is a poem. It really did come together quickly. 😉
Thanks for the prompt. I enjoyed this one!
BTW, I have added many of you to my BLOGGERS list on Twitter. 😉
Blessings all around. <
Thanks for joining in, Linda Ann! I love seeing the diversity and creativity that comes out of a single word prompt! Lovely to have you with us!
Your post is totally where my mind was going, but I didn’t get there in five minutes. I was busy reminiscing! 🙂
That happens sometimes! Glad you wrote and linked up with us, Kristin!
Thanks for hosting this community. It’s a source of encouragement.
You are so welcome! Glad to hear it! Thanks for being here.
PASS was hard, Kate! But we all persevered and put pen to paper and got ‘er done! Thank you for your excellence.
I need to throw in a zinger every once in a while, right, Susan? 😉 Thanks for taking up the challenge and writing anyway! I enjoyed your post!
“The ache is only temporary.”
This is especially poignant for me today. The big ol’ scar on my abdomen hurts, which means it’s going to rain. Weird how that thing responds to changes in barometric pressure. My liver likes to remind me with regularity that it exists and isn’t at all happy. Sometimes I just want to punch it, but that would make me cry like a baby. How grateful I am that one day this pain will be a distant, faded memory!
So sorry that you’re still struggling, Marie! But yes, we can all take comfort and be strengthened by the reminder that it won’t last forever. May the Lord continue to give you sufficient grace in the waiting!
Hi Kate! We took our posts in similar directions this week. Love how you encourage us here to keep going and to realize we’re getting stronger through the struggle. Thanks for all you do for us in this beautiful community! Bless you!
It’s such a pleasure, Julie! Thank you for being here!
Hugs, Kate! Sounds like you need some extra ones right now. I’m sure that writing your book amidst recovering health-wise is a big challenge…and the emotions in retelling your life story will be painful and tiring as well. But yes, this: “yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day”- and He will use your words powerfully too, to His Glory!
I too am being renewed day by day by incredible blessings: and that’s what my post is about (late because my free Friday mornings are now taken up by visiting a special family). Thank you, Jesus! Praying over you now: for renewed Strength, for comfort and peace.
Thank you, Anna! Your kindness is such a blessing. I appreciate you and your gentle heart!
Kate,
oh those scriptures! I definitely had to pass through the waters at the beginning of the week. Thank you thank you thank you. I was oh so edified and lifted up reading all that you wrote. 🙂 And now I’m finally getting five minutes to join the party!
Love,
Tammy

That brings me so much encouragement, Tammy! Thank you for letting me know. Your comment reminded me that His Word does not return to Him void, but accomplishes the purposes that He desires (Isaiah 55:11). Hope you have a blessed week, friend! So glad you’re part of FMF!
