From the 4th to the 6th of October next year, two of my sisters will stroll the streets of Philadelphia.  They will not amble alone, nor will they take a single stride in vain.

They will walk with thousands of other women, and they will walk with purpose.

One purpose.

To find a cure for breast cancer.

They will walk for my mom.  They will walk for me.  They will walk for you.

They will walk for all women who have been or could still be affected by this vicious, life-snatching disease.

They will walk for a cure.

Walk with them.  Find out how to join their team, “Cupcakes for a Cure,” by reading my sister’s letter below.

Every year on October 1, I encourage my friends and family to be vigilant in the fight against breast cancer. I encourage you to promote self-checks, regular mammograms, and general health in yourself and the women in your life. This issue is especially close to my heart because my mom, Rita, passed away last year from breast cancer. But through regular mammograms and early detection, she added 9 years to her life.Next October, I’ll be participating in a very special event called the Susan G. Komen 3-Day™. I’ll walk 60 miles over the course of three days with my sister Amy, and thousands of other women and men.I’ve agreed to raise at least $2,300 in donations. And because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and my walk will happen in October of 2013, I’m doing something special this October! For every donation I receive this month, I will match dollar-for-dollar (up to $1,000 total). So if you donate $1, it’s like donating $2. Or if you donate $10, it’s like donating $20. (I was an English major; this is the best math I can do.)

You can give online at The3Day.org. Just follow the link below to visit my personal fundraising webpage and make a donation. You can also call 800-996-3DAY to donate over the phone. Or contact me, via email (sjbaar – at – gmail.com), phone (616-283-4541), or mail (2138 Woodlark Dr. Holland, MI  49424). Checks should be made out to Susan G. Komen 3-Day and should include my participant number (6363705) in the memo line.

Every 74 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer. That’s why I’m walking so far. To do something bold about breast cancer. I hope that you’ll share this incredible adventure with me – by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Sincerely,
Sarah

FYI:
Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the Komen 3-Day help fund national research and large public health outreach programs. The remaining 25 percent help to fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.

No breast cancer organization provides more support and care than Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer in the last 30 years has been impacted by a Komen grant, and millions of women like my mom rely on Susan G. Komen every day. These women need our help more than ever to safeguard Komen’s great work in our local communities for another 30 years.
