Hey Five Minute Friday writers!
I hope you’re ready, because you’re in for a treat! This week, we have a special guest sharing some thoughts on our prompt, HAVEN.
I couldn’t use the prompt, HAVEN, without asking LeeAnn Taylor to guest post for us.
LeeAnn is a fellow faith journeyer discovering new-found freedom in Christ. She’s a wife and momma of three, trying to be intentional about spiritual growth, marriage, and parenting – both in the little things of life and the big ones too!
LeeAnn’s daughter, Haven, has been part of the Five Minute Friday family from the day she was born. Back in early January 2015, the FMF prompt was WELCOME. LeeAnn saw the prompt after giving birth that same day, and actually wrote and shared a post from her hospital bed!
Since then, many of the FMF community members got to meet and spend time with Haven at the Five Minute Friday retreat in August of 2015. She is too precious for words!
Thank you, LeeAnn, for sharing the following words (and your daughter) with us!
Sometimes I imagine what it must have been like to have been Eve in the Garden of Eden after she sinned and was separated from God.
The peace, the only feeling her tender heart had ever known, was gone. Instead, a stirring in her spirit, a restlessness, fear, shame and confusion stirred up inside of her. We know she was moved to action when we learn she and Adam created clothing and covered themselves before meeting with God again.
I wonder how long it was before she turned her heart back to God. I wonder how much second guessing she did, how many “what ifs” she uttered, how many times she wished she’d done something differently when she was in the midst of the pain of childbirth.
You know what I’ve discovered?
We’ve all done something (or lots of somethings!) that have separated us from God. And as a result, our spirit is stirred, unsettled, and seeks that true peace.
For me, I’ve held on to an illusion of control, particularly with our finances, for so long – too long. My heart knows God delights in providing for us, but my mind sees the numbers on the page and doubts. And yet even in the midst of my struggle and doubt, God is gracious and faithful – so, so faithful to fill our every need.
In the storm of the unknowns, He provides the peace and is my haven in the storm.
“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
He stilled the storm to a whisper;
the waves of the sea were hushed.
They were glad when it grew calm,
and he guided them to their desired haven.”
~ Psalm 107:28-30
