Worth.

Those five letters are enough to make us sort of cringe up inside of ourselves and cocoon away for a season, aren’t they?

We’re bombarded from every side by media, society and culture telling us in shouts and whispers that we need to be more, do more, look more appealing.

It’s enough to crush our sense of worth. It’s enough to crush the truth.

We’ve all believed it, haven’t we? This lie that the we are worthless as we are.

We look around and see others as prettier, more successful, more productive than we are — and we think their lives have more worth.

So we curl up in our corners and we’re convinced that nobody will notice if we just wither away into the shadows.

But the truth is, someone does notice. Not only does He notice, but He cares. And it turns out, His opinion is really the only one that matters.

In Matthew 10:29-31, we read this truth:

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows”.

Think about that for a moment.

God knows the sparrows. He cares for them. How much more does He care for you?

You are worth more than many sparrows

He even knows how many hairs are on your precious head.

So what does the verse say?

When you hear the whisper of that traitorous voice, telling you that you’re worth nothing or very little, look out the window. Find a bird. Think about how the Lord cares for that bird.

Then look in the mirror. Look at your hair. Try to count the strands.

And be humbled and lifted up at the same time, that your Creator made you in His image.

You are precious to Him, and in His eyes, you have great worth.
