We used to play “Telephone” in elementary school, that game where the first person in the row cups his hand to the ear of the next person, and whispers a message into the waiting listener, who in turn would shift from left to right and whisper what they heard into the next link in the chain.

Of course, what made the game fun was how scrunched up and twisted the original message became after passing through several hushed voices and recipients before finally landing at the caboose.

But we played and we laughed, and we played again.

And then I think about the message of the gospel, passed on from lips to ears and new ears transferring the message to their own lips, year after year, generation after generation .. what a sheer miracle that the truth of His Word remains clear.

Yes, we’ve botched it up here and there, and we’ve twisted its meaning to match what our itching ears want to hear.

But His Word.  It endures forever.

And in His goodness, we get to be the messengers.

What a privilege.

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” ~ Isaiah 40:8

“And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” ~ 2 Corinthians 5:19b-20

  1. Isaiah 40:8 is one of my favorite verses. It validates every other verse…because His word stands forever! And He makes His message loud and clear!

  3. I find it so amazing that we can trust the word that has been passed to us. So little can we trust to be pure. But God’s words are as pure today as when they were first breathed.

  5. This is such a great parallel and insight today, Kate, “what a sheer miracle that the truth of His Word remains clear.” Yes, it is a miracle, isn’t it?! And only God that makes it so. Love your thoughts here today. xoxo, Meredith
